The Social Justice Team serves as the organizing and coordinating body for the church’s social justice efforts. The committee make up includes representatives of the outreach task forces. Our major foci are the social justice questions at the intersection of education and racial and economic justice. We have adopted a local elementary school, created an anti-racism team, and are connecting with others doing this important work.
In addition, we have teams working on GLBTQA equality, ecology, mental health, economic justice, immigration, supporting a local food pantry and soup kitchen, and supporting Unitarian Universalist advocacy and service at the statewide, national, and international level. There are many opportunities to get involved in this work.
In addition, we give away 80% of our offering each week to a social justice organization doing the work of caring, compassion, and witness in the world.
The team strives to educate the congregation on social justice issues by sponsoring informational forums and publishing articles in the church newsletter.
