Our religious education program was created to support parents who are raising their children with an appreciation of liberal religious values. We hope our young people will:
CHURCH SCHOOL REGISTRATION
Parents of all children in Sunday morning programming (infants - senior high) are required to complete a Registration Form, which can be obtained from the DRE or an R.E. volunteer leader or online here.
Like most programming at The Unitarian Universalist Church, our R.E. Program is offered without charge, supported by the entire congregation through our annual canvass. All families participating in our Sunday morning activities are expected to contribute to the church budget by making an annual pledge of support and volunteering in the R.E. Program in some capacity. Non-members can visit 3 times before we ask for a $50 registration fee and volunteer time.
Our R.E. Program is a cooperative one, staffed solely by volunteers. Volunteers can take on short-term tasks-- such as helping with a special activity, subbing, or assisting in a class occasionally-- or assume greater responsibility, through joining a teaching team, being a youth adviser, or serving on the Religious Growth and Learning Committee. At the time of registration, parents are asked to indicate how they can be of help.
To those of you who do not have children in the R.E. program, we extend a special invitation to serve as a church school or youth volunteer. Please contact the Director of Religious Education, Lindsay Dunn for details, and watch for specific needs announced in the church newsletter, Kairos.
What Happens on Sunday Morning?
Religious Education Classes
Children begin in the sanctuary at 10:15 am and leave with their teachers to their classrooms after the story for all ages, about 10:30 am. In their classrooms they will engage in activities, stories and fun. There are opportunities for learning, reflection and sharing, and community building within the framework of a spiritually and emotionally nurturing environment.
We do require that parents stay on church grounds when their children are present in church. Teachers will release the children to their parents after service. Please pick up your children at their classrooms directly after service so that our teachers may join their families and the congregation during coffee hour.
Sundays we have one worship service at 10:00. At 10:00 service children and youth begin with their families in the sanctuary for the beginning of worship. After the story, children will have the opportunity to either leave the sanctuary for religious education at 10:30am or stay in the service with their families.
Childcare is available in the Nursery for children ages newborn to four years old. Our childcare is provided by professional paid staff that are screened and background checked.
The Summer Fun program replaces religious education classes Memorial Day through to Labor Day. We will begin in the sanctuary with the congregation together at 10 am. After the second song the children will go downstairs to the Margaret Fuller Room. We have an amazing variety of fun multi-age activities planned so mark your calendars you are not going to want to miss these! If you have a talent, skill or hobby to share with our kids please let me know!
