2007-2008 Religious Education Brochure
From Colleen McDonald, The Minister of Religious Education
Unitarian Universalist Church, Rockford? Whats that?
We are a church where young children learn that religion is about belonging, kindness, caring, friendship, and cooperation.
A
church for parents who question the value of mainstream religion and yet want
their children to lead a moral life.
A church where teens who arent Christian or saved, who may not believe in God, or who are gay or lesbian, can develop friendships and explore their values within an accepting group of peers and adult advisors.
A church for moms and dads who may not know what to say when their kids ask them, Is God real? Where did I come from? or What do we believe in? but want them to find meaningful answers.
A church where love (not a definitive cast of characters) makes a family.
A church where parents can be true to their own beliefs-- or disbelief-- while raising their children to be curious, tolerant and open-minded.
A church where people believe there are much more important issues than whether a teenager dyes her/his hair green.
Our religious education program encourages individuals of all ages to explore religious questions and ethical values in developmentally-appropriate ways, apply the Principles of our faith to their daily lives, develop friendships with fellow seekers, and learn from one another.
Want to learn more about us? Read the brochure whose link is at the top of this page for further details, and come see us in action on Sunday morning.
We are a liberal religious community which welcomes all to share in our search for truth and meaning, dedication to social action, and committment to the Unitarian Universalist principles. And you are welcome here.
